5 ways to reduce your beauty waste

Bathrooms can be one of the most wasteful rooms in your house.  Research suggests that only 50% of bathroom rubbish is recycled.  This means that much of it ends up in landfill, or in our oceans and rivers.🛀

What could you do to reduce your waste?  Here are our top 5 tips for reducing beauty waste in your bathroom.

1. Why not try switching to shampoo bars rather than buying shampoo in plastic bottles. There are brands that offer different shampoo bars for all different hair types and they can be the equivalent of around three 250-350ml bottles of shampoo! Not only are they plastic-free, they tend to be made with non-toxic ingredients and sustainable practices. There is another replacement for liquid shampoo and that is powder shampoo. A particular brand called Susteau use only the effective dry ingredients needed to wash hair and work on all hair types, including chemically treated hair. Their bottles are made with over 95% ocean-bound recycled plastic and is easily recyclable.

2. The traditional makeup wipe is not only harmful to the environment, but also to your skin. Try using a product that isn't single use and is plastic-free.  Our Simply Gone Makeup remover cloths are reusable, long-lasting and durable! 4. Similarly to swapping your liquid shampoo for a shampoo bar, why not swap your shower gel for soap instead! No plastic involved and soap bars can last a very long time! They come in a huge variety of styles and scents and can add some real luxury to your bathroom.  You could even attempt to make your own soap bars!

5. Plastic toothbrushes are not recyclable, but it is easy to switch to a more sustainable option. Bamboo toothbrushes are biodegradable and compostable, with bamboo being a sustainable crop. They are even available in children’s sizes! On top of this you can get biodegradable dental floss.  This effective, plastic free floss has far less environmental impact.
